DOMINATOR NIGHT AT CARL CARPENTER'S PLACE.
Friday night Dec. 29th was the giant culmination of all the major Boston area hot rod club events. It was the first interclub event hosted this year by The Push Rods at the lavish estate of Carl Carpenter in Cochituate Ma. Cops were seen directing traffic while Carl provided us with topless female valet parking service. Does this guy know class?
Carl has a meeting room unlike anything we've seen before. It's a 3500 sq.ft. log home Carl designed with a combo carpeted garage and meeting room with an entertainment center to die for. Many trophy cases, mirrors and other trick features were noticed throughout. Present were members of the Ty-Rods, the Boston Area Roadsters, the King Pins out of Watertown, the Ball Joints from North Arlington, the Leaky Power Steering Racks from Littleton, the T-Bucket gang (NDRM) out of Maynard, the Push Rods and Dominators.
Initially it looked like the makings of a good hot rod rumble. Present from our club were V.P. Doug Lawson, Disgustin, President Ribby, Snofat, Animal, Maimone, Nick, Jack, and Rod. Double points to Snow for flying from Florida, driving to the Carpenter estate, then doing the party thing and still getting home sober to sleep, then having to rise at 4:00 AM to go to work. What a trooper. (or is it the free eats?). Bob Maimone donated a microwave for the evening. Animal, Disgustin, Rod, Lawson, and Maimone made a pizza run to help supplement the food situation on the way up. Standing in the pizza shop with our satin red jackets was very intimidating both for us and the store's clientele. "We Bad".
While we waited for supplemental food, Nick and Jack hooked up at the shopping plaza down the road and went to pick up the club's prostitute. Jack told us later the club prostitute refused to work because she wouldn't accept a personal check Nick had made out earlier to both her and Jack. Gustin feels we should add her into the club's 401K plan and give her a club plaque to smooth things over. Jack now says he won't pimp for her anymore because Mary says it's an insurance thing. Gamache has come up with a new insurance policy for her, I'm told now. Animal feels that Clayton should take over the exalted position of Club Pimp and devise a profit sharing plan for her. Jerry has signed a lease for her new Club Hospitality Conversion Van. (Wow do we take care of her!). Danny, Strelis, and Win say screw the 401K, just give her the plaque. We take good enough care of her as it is! Ray thinks the whole issue is stupid and we should get a new hooker, preferably nearer to Hopkington. We must discuss all this further at the January business meeting to be held at the club condo in Aspen. Remember to bring money for your 2001 dues. I have provided satellite hookup to Riley's for those unable to go to Aspen.
Anyhow---- the interclub's activities started off with Carl's chili in 3 different blends. 1.) Lip and gut singe octane, 2.)Colon blow, and 3.)Atomic blast liver destroyer grade. Hot dog were available, steamed or Maimoneized. Next was served Dominators pizza in 3 delicious flavors,1) Cut cheese, 2.) Floor dropped with a hint of rock salt and 3.)French Canadian vanilla bacon and ham, kosher of course. Also adorning the banquet table were various labels of imported beers, pigs in a blanket (one was spotted in a quilt with Carl.), beer, chips and dip, beer, lovely dainty finger(ed) sandwiches, beer, brownies, beer and a stunning golden cake with a frothy vanilla beer frosting plus some of Rod's favorite lemonade.
Freddy Hire provided a film, which they played on Carl's drive-in movie screen. Skip Readio took photos that Fred and friends had taken in the late 50's thru the middle 60's and he threaded them into a 2 hour movie that proved to be very interesting. There were shots of old hot rod shows, assorted Push Rod's events, street racing scenes, Jack's honey moon night in their tent, and many scenes taken at New England drag strips. There was even Indy and Bonneville coverage. Freddy also gave a nice speech thanking Carl for letting us drive on his lawn and soil his carpet and plush velour couches and chairs. The T-bucket gang was very animated with Don the Hair telling some great old racing tales. Jim Gustin presented Bob Rhoads with the hinge pin puller trophy. Problem was it was for the wrong side. Well he's just going to put it on the mantle piece anyway! A member of the Ty-Rods, Paul, gave a glowing story of their trip to Bonneville's salt flats That tale had Rod drooling. Jim Coronary English could be seen sampling the pastry table most of the night. Jack, Nick and Rod were spinning yarns of earlier years in Allston and Brighton.
A lot of the Push Rods were involved in a heated conversation with us as to how many cars the members have in their club. Numbers ranged from three up to "more cars than you fuckin' Dominators have!" Ribby thought they must be counting all current cars plus cars formally owned in their youth. Doug thought they were including the 1/25 scale cars inside Carl' trophy cabinet. Like Danny said a long time ago "Web sites talk and Push Rods walk."
All kidding and bull shitting aside, the Push Rod did a tremendous job of putting on this party and our thanks go especially to Carl Carpenter for hosting this interclub extravaganza. We all hope to see this become a continuing tradition and it will require the assistance of all of us and the other clubs to make it successful.
Good health and best wishes for a Happy New Year,
- Disgustin' Jim Gustin
